FINO-THERM Democase introduction

May 18, 2023

Read the short story of the FINO-THERM Democase lead by AT-P Aviation that was selected through the OASIS Open Call:

Icing conditions are one of the key causes of loss of control inflight and system/component failure in General Aviation (GA). In-flight icing occurs when supercooled water freezes on contact with an aircraft’s external structure during flight. Most often, ice builds up in flight on the frontal surfaces: the leading edge of the wings, the nose, and the tail surfaces causing hazardous situations.

AT-P Aviation is a Polish SME dedicated to the development, construction and production of modern GA planes with design focused on energy efficiency and safety. The challenge addressed by this project is to develop an effective and durable electro-thermal system for the prevention / removal of rapid ice build-up on critical surfaces, with a limited available power source (6,3 kW). The system will have fault tolerance, good reliability and be safe and resistant to damage. The system will generate a temperature of up to 67 °C in flight, and the temperature distribution will be uniform throughout the heating surface. The system must withstand the temperature range from -55 °C to +90 °C.

The FINO-THERM case is using the combined services of TMBK, Tecnalia and Amires in order to execute this Democase.
